Recording

Every video needs two kinds of recordings: your screen recordings (tutorials) and your facecam. You record both with your usual software and your camera, then upload them to Macreto. The in-browser teleprompter helps you read your script.

Tutorials: your screen recordings

• Upload your screen recordings as they are. Multiple files are fine.
• You upload them in the first step of a video, before the research starts.

Facecam: the part in front of the camera

As soon as your script is ready, the video page shows “Shoot the facecam”.

1. Read your script, ideally in the teleprompter (see below).
2. Record yourself with your camera. Slip-ups are fine; the AI cuts them out.
3. Upload your facecam recording(s). Multiple files are fine here too.
4. Once everything is in, click “Build the video”.

Where you appear on screen

You choose which side your facecam appears on under “Video style”. Tip: pick the side where little happens in your tutorial.

In-browser teleprompter

1. On the video page, click “Start teleprompter”.
2. Press “Start” or the space bar. The text scrolls from bottom to top. The highlighted reading line shows where your eyes should be.
3. Adjust “Speed” and “Text size” with the plus and minus buttons. Your browser remembers your settings.
4. If you have several versions, choose the version you want to read at the top.

More buttons in the top right:

• “Mirror (for glass teleprompters)”: flips the text for teleprompters with a glass pane.
• “Full screen”: shows the teleprompter full screen.
• “Phone as remote”: see the next section.

Keyboard: space = start/pause, up/down arrows = speed, + and − = text size, Home = back to the start.

Phone as remote

Use your phone to control the teleprompter without walking back to your computer.

1. In the teleprompter, click the phone icon (“Phone as remote”).
2. Scan the QR code with your phone’s camera.
3. Your phone shows large buttons: “Start”/“Pause”, “Back”, “Forward”, “Slower”, “Faster”, smaller/larger text, and “From the start”.
4. Once your phone is linked, the teleprompter shows “Connected”.

Note

The remote link is valid for 12 hours. After that, just scan a new QR code.

Uploading large files (up to 20 GB)

Each file can be up to 20 GB. Here’s how to upload reliably:

1. Before each upload, check “I own the rights to these recordings”. This confirms the recordings are yours or you’re allowed to use them, including all people, content, and music in them.
2. Drag the files onto the upload area or click it.
3. Keep the tab open until the upload finishes. You’ll see progress, speed, and the estimated time left.

Files are uploaded in chunks. If the connection drops, the upload continues automatically. If you closed the tab, just select the same file again: the upload picks up where it left off.

Save upload time

Shrinking files first saves a lot of time. With the free app HandBrake (preset “Fast 1080p30”), 8 GB often becomes 1 to 2 GB with no visible difference on YouTube.

Recording course lessons in one go

In course mode, you can record the facecam for all lessons in one go on a shooting day. Macreto cuts the long recording into individual lessons at your spoken markers (“Lesson 1, Lesson 2 …”).
