Course mode

Course mode turns a single topic into a complete online course. Macreto does the research, plans modules and lessons, and tells you for each lesson what to record on screen. Every lesson becomes its own learning video.

Note

Course mode is available from the Creator plan. Each lesson costs credits just like a video. Credits are only charged when a lesson’s script is created.

Have your course planned

1. Open “Courses” in the menu and click “New course”.
2. Enter the “Course title” and describe the topic in one sentence under “What is it about?”.
3. Set “For whom?” the course is, the “Level” (“Beginners”, “Advanced users”, or “Pros”), and the “Scope” (“Mini course (1–2 hours)” or “Full course (5 hours or more)”).
4. Optional: add links to docs or your own videos plus notes under “Sources, links & notes”.
5. Choose the “Brand kit” and click “Plan the course”.

Macreto now researches and plans your course. You can close the page; the plan will be waiting for you.

Review and create the course plan

The course plan is made up of modules and lessons. Each lesson has a “Learning goal”, an “Exercise for participants”, and shooting instructions: what you record on screen.

1. Review the outline. Change titles, order, learning goals, and shooting instructions.
2. Use “Add module” and “Add lesson” to add more, and “Move up”/“Move down” to reorder.
3. Click “Save plan” to keep your progress. If the plan is way off, click “Plan again”.
4. When everything fits, click “Create course: … lessons”.

You can always find the course research at the bottom of the course page under “Course research”.

Produce the lessons

After creating the course, you’ll see the “Lessons” list with each lesson’s status and next step. Every lesson is its own video:

1. Open a lesson.
2. Upload the screen recordings listed in the shooting instructions.
3. Click “Write the script”. Lessons use the course research, so the script starts right away.
4. From there it works like any other video: facecam, build, review, “Looks good!”. See Your first video.

Shooting day: record all lessons in one go

Instead of recording each facecam separately, you can shoot them all in one session.

1. As soon as the first scripts are ready, click “Teleprompter for … lessons” under “Shooting day” on the course page. The teleprompter shows the scripts of all lessons one after another.
2. Before each lesson, say “Lesson” and the number out loud, for example “Lesson one”. The teleprompter shows the German cue “Lektion …”; both words work. Pause briefly, then go.
3. Upload the long recording under “Drop the long recording here”.
4. Macreto automatically cuts the recording into the lessons at your spoken markers.

Tip

Stumbled? Just say the marker again and restart the lesson. If you repeat a marker, the last take counts.

You can still upload individual facecam files directly in each lesson.

Export the course

1. You can download each finished lesson individually from the lesson list.
2. To get them all together, click “Create package” under “Export”.
3. When the package is ready, click “Download package”.

You’ll get a ZIP file numbered by module and lesson, with a course overview.
